Dakar’s Jaraaf qualified for the first time in their history in the group stage of the African Football Confederation Cup (CAF). Qualification is acquired after a fiercely contested second leg against Zimbabwe’s FC Platinum this Sunday, February 21, 2021 at the Lat Dior stadium in Thiès, 70 km east of Dakar.
Dakar’s Jaraaf had a small lead over the Zimbabweans since in the first leg, they won 1 goal to 0.
The Zimbabweans came to Thiès for a clear ambition: to forget the defeat in the first leg and win the qualification. But it was without counting on the men of Moussa Diatta and Pape Ciré Dia, decided to continue the adventure.
Despite the physical impact imposed by the Zimbabwe team, the Medina club was able to respond and won by the same score as the first leg thanks to a direct free kick from the talented Madické Kane (1 – 0)
The Jaraaf thus obtains a historic and deserved qualification. Despite the departure of coach Malick Daf who preferred to continue the adventure with the U17 national team, Jaraaf managed to reach the goal of qualifying. They have the merit of having put out teams that are difficult to maneuver. They beat in the first round of the preliminaries, the Kano Pillars of Nigeria, the Ivorians of San Pedro and finally the FC Platinum of Zimbabwe.
