The Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba University (UCAB), is the jewel currently under construction in the city of Touba, in the region of Diourbel. The financing, amounting to 37 billion, is largely provided by the disciples of the Mouride brotherhood. Launched since 2011 by Serigne Mame Mor Mbacké, son of Serigne Mourtalla, the work of the UCAB had not seen the expected progress. Serigne Mountakha Mbacké, general khalif of Mouride, reiterated the call for the execution of the university’s work in 2018. Since then, the jewel has taken shape and offers a high quality infrastructure for efficient and modern teaching.
The Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba University (Ucab) will be added to the 6 universities currently operating in Senegal (Dakar-Thies-St Louis-Bambey-Kaolack and Ziguinchor). It will offer real opportunities for success to Senegalese students, especially those who have obtained the Arab baccalaureate and whose orientations in the aforementioned universities posed a real problem.
The Ucab will be built in Ndame (Touba) on an area of 10 hectares (20 hectares built) to accommodate more than 60,000 students (including 25,000 girls) who will come, for the most part, from the 400 Al Azhar institutes, scattered all over the world. It is intended to be an academic model through a multidisciplinary approach. In total, Ucab will have 5 faculties: Arts and Humanities, Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Business and Economics, Engineering, Education Sciences. In addition, it will be reinforced by 6 institutes: Continuing Education, Applied Languages, Agriculture and Economics, Interreligious Communication and Dialogue, Agronomic Research and Environment, Theological Research.
In addition to this impressive educational offer, the architect, Jean Louis Trinquero, in charge of the works, has provided a green area, an area for the practice of sport, 70 apartments for teachers and researchers, 300 housing for students, an amphitheatre of 2,300 places, a mosque, an efficient computer network, an air conditioning system.
