The Head of State announced on Wednesday that he has decided to organize the launch of the dialogue with the various components of the nation, on May 30, at the palace of the Republic. In the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, he gave the reasons that prompted him to call for a national dialogue.

“In the spirit of the National Dialogue Day, established in 2016 – and the achievements of the National Dialogue Steering Committee, hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic – the President of the Republic decided to organize, on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at the Palace of the Republic, the launch of dialogue with representatives of political, economic, social, cultural, religious and customary leaders, youth and women, in order to exchange and build lasting consensus on major issues related to national life, and the future of the country,” the Cabinet communiqué said.

Macky Sall reminded the government of its ongoing commitment, since 2012, to consolidate the dialogue with all the Nation’s living forces, in order to “establish peace and social stability as part of our resolute march towards an emerging Senegal by 2035.”

The opposition is divided on the question of national dialogue, some of its leaders being fiercely opposed to the idea of going to respond to the invitation of the Head of State, when others are more willing and supportive of this idea but place conditions on their eventual participation.
