Ousmane Sonko’s lawyers are outraged by the sentence handed down to their client on Thursday. Will the leader of Pastef be arrested and imprisoned in the next few hours? Bamba Cissé, one of his lawyers explains that as soon as we talk about in absentia, «at any time Ousmane Sonko can be arrested». He specified, that there is no need for an arrest warrant to do so, since we are in a situation of in absentia.
As for his client, Mr.Bamba Cissé made it clear that he was not considered a prisoner: The law states that when you are in absentia, if you are a prisoner or when you are arrested, the trial must be redone. But we, at this stage, do not yet think it necessary to make ourselves a prisoner. Let everyone take responsibility. They know where the contumax is (Editor’s note: Sonko), if they want to stop it, they go and get it. As things stand, it is unthinkable to be a prisoner», the lawyer explains.
