Summer Mercato – The Moroccan Achraf Hakimi the most expensive African player

The end of the summer mercato on Tuesday 31 August 2021 made it possible to know the most expensive African player. Indeed, it is the Moroccan Achraf Hakimi. Morocco’s 22-year-old Achraf Hakimi, a multi-role international law sidekick, joined the French PSG club against a €70 million transaction, including a bonus.

The 2021 summer mercato closed its doors on Tuesday, August 31 in the evening.Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi ranks first among the most expensive African players. The Atlas Lion was transferred from the Italian club Inter in Milan to Paris Saint-Germain for an amount of 70 million euros, including bonuses.

Achraf Hakimi did not manage to beat the record of transfer of the Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, who left Lille for Naples because of 82 million euros during the 2020 mercato or that of the Ivorian Nicolas Pépé, which signed with Arsenal against 80 million euros in 2019.The young Moroccan player did not waste time at Paris Saint-Germain to make his mark.Indeed, he already has 1 goal and 2 assists in 4 games.

Achraf Hakimi is trained at Real Madrid, he participates in the UEFA Youth League in the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 seasons. In the following season, the Moroccan won the 2017-2018 Champions League with Real Madrid’s first team. He was then loaned to Borussia Dortmund for two seasons before signing a definitive contract with Inter Milan, a club in which he proved himself by winning the A Series in 2021.

Achraf Hakimi is followed in the ranking of the most expensive African players of this mercato by the Zambian Patson Daka who occupies the second place of the ranking. It was transferred from RB Salzburg to Leicester City for 30 million euros. Third place is taken by another Zambian named Enock Mwepu who left RB Salzburg to commit to Brighton for €23 million. They are followed respectively by the Ivorian Odilon Kossounou of the Club Bruges-Bayer who joined Leverkusen for 23 million euros and the young Senegalese Pape Matar Sarr of Metz who commits with Tottenham for 20 million euros.
