TUNISIA: Candidate Nabil Karoui is free.

The Tunisian Court of Cassation demanded the release of Nabil Karoui this Wednesday, October 9, 2019 in the afternoon. The politician was detained in the Mornaguia prison south of Tunis. The latter will have just two days to fight campaign in the framework of the second round of the presidential scheduled this Sunday, October 13.

Nabil Karoui was prosecuted for money laundering and tax evasion. His lawyers had lodged several appeals to have the charges against him dropped. But, they were all rejected. The 56-year-old businessman was in pre-trial detention since 23 August 2019. At the announcement of his release, the militants were over-excited at the Qalba Tounes party headquarters and already see their leader as the highest judge.

The decisive moment of this campaign will be the televised debate planned between the two candidates Nabil Karoui and Kais Saied this Friday, October 11, 2019. A confrontation, a few days before the elections, which will undoubtedly benefit one of the candidates who will manage to convince the opinion and to win votes in his favor.
