UEFA Euro 2020 is officially launched on Friday 11 June 2021. The opening match pitted Italy against Turkey at 7pm at the Olimpico Stadium in Rome. The Italians, dominating from the beginning to the end of the match, logically imposed 3 goals at 0 against Turks who just defended. Italy, absent from the last World Cup in Russia, marked its return with this beautiful victory which is a strong signal for the favourites of the competition.

Roberto Mancini’s men managed to make their start of the competition ahead of the 25% of supporters present in Rome. Squadra Azzurra logically won 3 goals at 0 with more than 63% ball possession.

The first half was difficult for the Italians who lacked realism despite the team’s fourteen shots after the first 45 minutes. The situation settled down in the second half. Merih Demiral, the Turkish Juventus defender, scored against his side (0-1, 53′). Ciro Immobile doubled the lead (0 – 2, 66th) by taking a shot from Leonardo Spinazzola badly rejected by Uğurcan Cakir. Lorenzo Insigne definitively freed Italy by scoring the third goal (0 – 3, 79th) on a relaunch error by Turkish goalkeeper Uğurcan Cakir.
