UGANDA – The country welcomes 51 people from Afghanistan

The Ugandan government welcomed the first aircraft from Afghanistan on Wednesday 25 August 2021 at Entebbe International Airport. in Uganda. A total of 51 have arrived in the country and many more evacuees are expected to arrive in the coming days.

Uganda has just welcomed its first refugees from Afghanistan on Wednesday 25 August.These 51 people are Afghans and other nationalities. They were welcomed in a hotel in Entebbe, close to the international airport. 

This reception on Ugandan soil was facilitated and made possible through discussions between the United States and the Ugandan government. More refugees are expected to arrive in the country in the coming days. The number of people is 2,000 . They must be temporarily in Uganda before they can reach other countries.

The Ugandan Minister of Foreign Affairs was quick to point out that many of their compatriots are stranded in Kabul and they will do what is necessary to repatriate these Ugandans.
