Rwandan President Paul Kagame is visiting Mozambique on Friday 24 September 2021.He was received by his counterpart President Filipe Nyusi. The visit comes after a contingent of 1,000 Rwandan soldiers had already been sent to Mozambique in July 2021. Their mission: to combat repeated terrorist attacks in Cabo Delgado, located in the extreme north of Mozambique, on the Tanzanian border.
“He has been with us since the middle of the morning this Friday, my counterpart from the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, who is making a working visit to our country. At the Pemba Naval Base, President Paul Kagame praised the Rwandan troops who, in coordination with our Defence and Security Forces (SDF), are operating in areas affected by terrorist actions in northern Cabo Delgado province. It is an example of success in Africa, where two forces join forces and with the SADC Alert Force, fight the enemy, in this case the terrorists. And cohabitation is healthy. As a reminder, in July 2021, Rwandan soldiers were sent to Mozambique to take part in the fight against the armed group Al-Shabab in Cabo Delgado province. This geographical area is located in the extreme north of Mozambique, on the Tanzanian border. It has been the target of an armed uprising since 2017. An Islamist insurgency of local origin, which pledged allegiance to the Islamic State organization. The contingent is 1,000.
