The port of El Hamdania in the center of Cherchell, the municipality of the wilaya of Tipaza will be set up. Ancient city on the Mediterranean coast of Algeria, it was one of the most important cities on the coast of North Africa. The infrastructure will cost 5 to 6 billion USD, this was announced by the Minister of Transport, Hani Lazhar on Monday, October 5, 2020. This information was revealed during the National Radio Forum. The port will be connected to the railway line extending to the capitals of African countries located at the southern borders of the country.
The port is a strategic location in the national economic sector. Thanks to its realization, it will be able to facilitate the processing of 6.5 million containers and 25.7 million tonnes of goods per year. It will be mainly intended for national maritime trade. It will be an axis of transit and exchange at the regional level.
At the end of August 2020, the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune had ordered during a council of ministers, the intensification of contacts with the Chinese partner who is in charge of its realization. On September 24, a working session was dedicated to examining the details of this infrastructure project.
