CHAD – Former President Hissène Habré will be buried in the Yoff Cemetery in Senegal

The former president of Chad Hissene Habré, who died on Tuesday 24 August 2021 in Dakar, will be buried on Thursday 26 August 2021 at the Muslim cemetery of Yoff in the Senegalese capital. The lifting of the body will take place at the Omarian mosque, one of the most important places of worship in Dakar.

The former Chadian president will now rest at the Muslim cemetery of Yoff on Thursday 26 August. The decision to bury Hissène Habré in Senegal was made by his family. The Habré family, relatives and allies, inform you of the reminder to Allah of President Hissène Habré.The lifting of the body is scheduled for Thursday, August 26 at 2 pm at the Omarian mosque and the burial at the Muslim cemetery of Yoff”, a district of the Senegalese capital, wrote the family. It should be noted that the Chadian government did not oppose the repatriation of his body to the country, but that no official tribute would be paid to him “because of his convictions and out of respect for his victims”. Fatime Raymonne, one of her wives had indicated that her husband wanted to be buried in Senegal.

Hissène Habré, who led Chad from 1982 to 1990, died of Covid-19 at the age of 79 in Senegal where he was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2016 by an African court for crimes against humanity, rape, executions, slavery and kidnapping.

Hissène Habré will be the second African President buried in Senegal after former Cameroonian President Ahmadou Ahidjo, who ruled his country from 1960 to 1982 before going into exile and being sentenced to death in absentia, was also buried in Dakar, at his death in 1989.
