DR CONGO – Bombé, a home-made drug that wreaks havoc


Bombé, a harmful substance that is highly prized by young Congolese, is an artisanal drug made from black dust extracted from vehicle exhaust catalysts, mixed with Nutriline and sold in pharmacies in Kinshasa.  The Congolese police have made arrests among consumers and sellers of this drug.

The authorities of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have committed themselves to dismantle all workshops selling the new drug called “Bombé”. Very popular with young people, the new drug gives rather strange sensations to its users. They sleep in broad daylight, scratch, cry or are hilarious, according to viral images on social networks.According to the national police, Tunisian nationals were arrested in Gombe in the city center.  

More than 60 drug users were arrested by the police and presented to the governor of Kinshasa. Moreover, the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi, took advantage of the Council of Ministers on Friday, August 20, 2021 to remind members of the government of the gravity of the situation.

The Congolese government announced that it had set up a commission of inquiry to study the toxicity of this drug.
