Ivorian football star Didier Drogba resigned from the Ivorian Football Association (AFI) on Monday, 09 August 2021. At the same time, he was the Vice-President of the Steering Committee. The former elephant attacker posted his resignation on his Twitter account.

Didier Drogba made the decision to leave the association of Ivorian footballers. In an open letter published on social networks, the former player denounces certain malfunctions. For the former player, this instance is inactive in defending the interests of Ivorian footballers. “I am writing to inform you that a few weeks ago I made the decision to resign from my position as Vice-President of the AFI and at the same time from its Steering Committee,” Drogba wrote on Twitter.

Didier Drogba took this opportunity to launch a solemn appeal against Ivorian footballers on the management of the AFI. “The AFI is on hold. It no longer meets your needs or expectations. The bad decisions that have followed have, at the cost of your precariousness, led to the degradation of the very fundamentals of the association and today one forgets the objectives and the missions which were his for the good and the interest of all the footballers of the country. However, I want to reassure you. I am one of the founding members of the AFI, because I know only too well the importance for our players to be able to refer to such a structure.I am not resigned, I am not abandoning you! (…) We will change things and give the AFI its full meaning. Together we will achieve this,‘ said one of Africa’s best players in his statement.
