Paul Kagame did not fail to shoot the English club of Arsenal after their defeat against Brentford this Friday, August 13, 2021. The London club is linked by Rwanda by a sponsorship partnership. Rwanda is, since 2018, the tourism partner of Arsenal. The “Visit Rwanda” logo is displayed on the sleeves of the Gunners jersey.
The defeat of Arsenal against Brentford (2-0) on Friday 13 August in the opening match of the first day of the English championship did not please Rwandan President Paul Kagame at all. The contract between Arsenal and Rwanda is three years and costs the country $40 million. After this defeat, Paul Kagame shared his dissatisfaction on Twitter.
“How? It’s football, it’s an Arsenal defeat against Brentford. Brentford deserved to win and they did it. Apart from the match itself, Arsenal and its fans don’t deserve to get used to it… NO!!! I say this as one of the biggest fans of Arsenal. The change has taken too long to come!” he first wrote.
“We’ve been fighting for decades, with ups and downs, more lows so far. Can we not have a plan that really works?” asked the Rwandan head of state before continuing. We must NOT excuse or accept mediocrity. A team must be built to win, win, win. So that when we lose…. That’s not an outcome we expected! I’m sure we all know where the biggest burden lies. I hope they know it too, or even accept it!!” , he went on.
After finishing last season in 8th place, Arsenal starts the new season again in the worst of ways. They logically occupy the bottom of the ranking after this first . day. They will have the opportunity to relaunch in the Premier League this coming weekend with the reception of Chelsea.
