Charles Blé Goudé and his followers can grow a sigh of relief. The President of the Pan-African Youth Congress (COJEP) received his passport from the Ambassador of Côte d’Ivoire to Denmark on 30 May 2022. He had requested it since July 2021. It is a long wait that will surely have a happy outcome with the upcoming return of Blé Goudé ” Gbapê, the crab with a thousand holes ”, as his supporters call it, in Côte d’Ivoire.

Yet it is not the joy of all Ivorian politicians who live outside their country. This is the case of former Prime Minister and President of the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire, Soro Kigbafori Guillaume. After falling out with his former allies of the Houphouetist Rally for Democracy and Peace (RHDP) and his missed return to Côte d’Ivoire in December 2019, the man lives in exile in Europe. Some of his supporters, including Souleymane Kamaraté and Fofana Abdoulaye, are still in detention in Côte d’Ivoire. The relations between the Soroïste clan and the Ivorian power, which were always difficult, did not bode well for the return of the former secretary of the Forces Nouvelles to his native land. This is however what Laurent Gbagbo and his party, the PPA-CI, ardently want.

In a statement published on 31 May 2022, Laurent Gbagbo and the PPA-CI welcomed the issuance of Charles Blé Goudé’s passport and also advocated for Soro Guillaume’s return to his country.

‘For the PPA-CI, in the name of national interest, no sacrifice is excessive for reconciliation and national cohesion. That is why, while rejoicing at this step forward on the road to reconciliation, President Laurent Gbagbo and his party continue to plead the cause of Soro Guillaume ”, reads the statement.

Is it a duty of gratitude? We remember that in August 2020, Soro Guillaume in a statement on social networks, had also intervened in favor of Laurent Gbagbo and Charles Blé Goudé. ” Release all these fathers of family of whom you know personally some who committed for only crime to militate against your choices. Mr President of the Republic, I urge you to make a gesture of reconciliation in favour of Laurent Gbagbo and Charles Blé Goudé. It will grow you ”, he said. Today, the two former inmates of The Hague have their problems almost solved. Soro Guillaume is still waiting for his return among his family.
Is this a sign of a rapprochement between Soroïstes and Gbagboïstes or a purely political maneuver? We don’t know much about that at the moment.

For the moment, Charles Blé Goudé and his supporters are not shy about their pleasure. And they are quite right!
