At least three people were shot dead during clashes between police and opposition supporters. The violence reportedly left at least 20 wounded, some shot. This led to the postponement to Saturday of the poll in four counties in the west of the country affected by these violent clashes.

As a reminder, this new date was set following the invalidation of the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta on August 8th by the Supreme Court. Raila Odinga, the main opponent, later announced his withdrawal from the race; the reforms he demanded and which he considered indispensable were not made.

He reiterated yesterday his call for “new elections, free and transparent in the next 90 days.”
