The fight against the spread of Covid-19 is global. While the whole world is in search of an effective remedy and the ideas diverge for weeks especially in France on the use or not of the chloroquine of Professor Didier Raoult, in Madagascar, President Andry Rajoelina unveils his healing card: Covid-organics, which is based on essential oils and medicinal plants.

It took 10 days of clinical trials at the Malagasy Institute of Applied Research (IMRA) to prove that this artemisia-based remedy would have positive effects on the coronavirus. “It is with great pride and a touch of emotion that we announce that IMRA’s research has been successful. They led to the development of Covid-Organics or CBO. An improved traditional remedy, prepared on the basis of traditional medicinal plants widely widespread and planted in Madagascar including Artemesia. These plants are used in traditional Malagasy medicine. All trials and tests of this first remedy have been conducted and its effectiveness in reducing the elimination of symptoms has been proven for the treatment of patients with covid-19 in Madagascar.” said Malagasy President Andry Rajoelina strongly convinced of the effectiveness of this remedy.

It was on March 24, 2020, following a letter received by the Head of State which mentioned a medicinal plant effective in the fight against the civid-19, that President Andry Rajoelina validated on April 11 the start of clinical trials for IMRA researchers. The export of all medicinal plants and essential oils was immediately blocked by a government decision. The objective of this decision is for the central government of Antananarivo, to protect itself from all covetousness and to allow the Malagasy population to be the first beneficiaries of this remedy.

The availability for marketing and consumption by the population was thus fixed on April 22 by the President of the Republic Andry Rajoelina: “These existing CDO remedies in the form of decoction and infusion will be distributed free of charge to the most vulnerable populations and put on the market from this Wednesday, April 22, 2020. Our goal is to popularize the consumption of this remedy among all Malagasy people.”

The Malagasy Institute of Applied Research (IMRA) concluded, according to its research, that this remedy could alleviate the symptoms of coronavirus.Research is ongoing to find and develop a more advanced curative treatment protocol. However, the World Health Organization has doubts about its effectiveness. According to the WHO, there is no evidence that these substances can prevent or cure covid-19 disease.
