Soumaila Cissé has now been in the hands of her captors for 38 days. The family of the Malian opposition leader is getting impatient. Bocar, his son, told the BBC on 30 April. According to his testimony, there are uncertainties about his father’s fate.

The last news the family received was on 3 April when the other members of Soumaila Cissé’s delegation were released. Since then, it has been total black. Unknown identity of the executioners and uncertain health of the victim.

« We don’t know who took him. We have information through intermediaries that reassures us but to date we have not been able to communicate with him. We have had no proof of life as a family or government or anyone,” says Bocar.

Vague negotiations

« We have been reassured several times by the government of Mali, by MINUSMA. But beyond that, we have no reliable information on potential negotiations. We don’t even know if they’re in contact with the kidnappers or not,” he said.

The son of the President of the URD, re-elected member of Parliament for Niafunké, is calling on the government to double its efforts to bring his father home. Especially since Soumaila Cissé went on the campaign, he said, “after receiving assurances from the government and international organizations in Mali that security would be guaranteed.”
