POPA ALÉ NIANG – Investigative journalist announces hunger strike

Pape Alé Niang

Placed under warrant, this Tuesday, Pope Ale Niang informs, in a message, that he intends to resume his hunger strike, as during his first detention. Because I decided to fight to the end. I observe a hunger strike to denounce my arbitrary and unjust detention. I entrust my family, my children, to God,” he says in a message that has been made public and that is fully offered to you.

“I inform the national and international public that I am being subjected to abominable and abject harassment and persecution by the Macky Sall regime. They decided to silence me at all costs by exerting unprecedented violence on me never seen in a democratic regime that respects human rights. Faced with this, I nourish myself with a determination that allows me to endure suffering. I implore no support. All support must be sincere and based on respect for democracy, human rights and the principles that govern my work as a journalist. In the meantime, they just have to dig a grave in my cell to bury me. Because I decided to fight to the end. I am on a hunger strike to denounce my arbitrary and unjust detention. I entrust my family, my children to God.”
