QATAR 2022: Morocco beats Belgium and sets foot in 8th

For their second outing at the Qatar 2022 World Championship, the Atlas Lions did their best by beating Belgium (2-0) on Sunday, November 27 at the Al Thumama stadium. The national team thus gleaned 3 precious points which allowed it to take an option on the qualification in the 8th final for group F. An imperious Morocco won against Belgium, thanks to the goals of Abdelhamid Sabiri (73′) and Zakaria Aboukhlal (90+2).

Morocco, outsider of Group F, has put everyone in agreement thanks to a big performance against Belgium. From the first minute, Ziyech shows up on the right side, which erases Timothy Castagne, but his center is not precise enough. The Belgians were dangerous and De Bruyne got a powerful shot in the 17th minute, deflected in the corner by the Moroccan defence. Big Red Devils dry cleaner in the opposing camp on Ziyech and his teammates. The Belgians approach the cage of Munir Mohamedi who replaces Yassine Bounou with an attempt by Meunier.

With his left foot, he placed the ball perfectly, and Saïss, who threw himself in front of the Belgian goalkeeper, caused the mistake. A goal denied on offside restarting the game for both teams.

From the first minutes of the second half, the Atlas Lions continued to press hard and offered themselves great opportunities, notably from Hakim Ziyech, his chance from afar (50′), but Courtois captured without difficulty. On the Belgian side, Hazard took his chance in the surface but hit Munir, who diverted the ball in the corner. In the 69th minute, Ounahi tries his luck full axis, 30 meters from the cages of Courtois but it is above. Regragui made new changes and brought in Hamdallah and Aboukhlal instead of Boufal and En-Nesyri.

It is the deliverance for Morocco thanks to Sabiri (73 ) who hits the free kick near the corner post after the two changes. The Atlas Lions striker deceives Thibaut Courtois, surprised. 1-0 for the Mountakhab with 15 minutes left in regulation time. The Moroccan defence is inexhaustible in these last minutes thanks to Romain Saiss and Nayef Aguerd. The Atlas Lions continue to create surprise and score a second goal thanks to Zakaria Aboukhal (90+2 ) after a nice dribble by Ziyech.

Morocco logically took the lead in Group F and moved closer to qualifying, hoping to make a difference against Canada on December 1st. A beautiful state of mind and collective play on the part of the Atlas Lions who make the joy of the fans out celebrating the victory in the four corners of the country. Walid Regragui’s men have a third game to play, decisive for the rest of the operation, on December 1 ahead of Canada.
