The will displayed by the Senegalese government to give Dakar a special status deeply disgusts the current mayor of Mermoz, Barthélemy Dias. Guest of the program “Yoonwi” on Rfm, he accuses President Macky Sall of not respecting the foundations of democracy. The idea of appointing the mayor of Dakar by presidential decree is scandalous, and constitutes a way of removing opposition from the governance of the capital according to him.
Barthélemy Dias recalled that since François Mitterrand, Paris has always been in the hands of the opposition and there has never been any question of amending the constitution to appoint the city’s first magistrate.
Barthélemy Días asks the State of Senegal, and the Head of State in particular, to put an end to all these rumors which announce a special status for the city of Dakar. For him, the city of Touba, which for almost three decades, runs behind this statute, deserves it more given the hard work of its founder, Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba. “Before giving a special status to a city that does not need it, it is better to give it to Touba, who has been running behind for 30 years,” he said.
By way of illustration, Barthélemy Diaz recalls that no authority has dared to block the Caliph list, which, however, does not take gender into account. According to him, “this privilege, Touba deserves it, in view of what its founder represents and all that he has done for religion, the Muslim community and for this city …”.
