A happy ending in the Diary Sow case. The Senegalese student at the Lycée Louis-le-Grand in Paris had been missing since 04 January 2021. She was finally found safe and sound in Belgium. Her sponsor, the Minister of Water, Serigne Mbaye Thiam, rushed to her bedside before bringing her home on Wednesday, January 27.

Diary Sow is in Senegal after more than three weeks of worry, controversy and speculation. She returned to Dakar on Wednesday on an Air Senegal flight with Minister Serigne Mbaye Thiam.

A preparatory class student at the Parisian Lycée Louis-le-Grand, she had been missing since 04 January 2021. A great mobilization was organized by the Senegalese on the web and on the ground to find it.

On Thursday 21 January, Diary Sow finally gave news. Through a letter sent to her godfather and water minister, Serigne Mbaye Thiam, she indicated that she was free to leave her boarding school. She also said she left enough clues behind to let people know that she left voluntarily. I’m not hiding. I’m not running away. Consider this as a kind of salutary respite in my life,” she wrote before adding: “Those who seek a rational explanation for my act will be disappointed because there is none”.

Since then, controversy has grown on social media. Some Senegalese still seek to understand her motives, while others ask to leave her alone. However, her family will be able to provide her with all the support she needs to be well.
