The Tunisian government launched a Commando vaccination campaign on Sunday 8 August 2021. This decision is due to the increase in coronavirus cases in the country. 551,008 people took their doses at the Open House for Covid-19 vaccination in Tunisia.
More than half a million Tunisian citizens have received their dose of Covid-19 vaccine.Activities began at 7:00 am in 335 centres across the country on Sunday 8 August. This important vaccination day was launched by the President of the Republic Kais Saied.
People aged 40 and over who have not received a dose before, were the priorities in this vaccination campaign. According to the latest statistics provided by the Ministry of Health, the governorate of Nabeul leads in terms of the number of people vaccinated, with 62,879 doses of vaccine administered, followed by the governorate of Sfax (45,959 doses) then that of Tunis (40,756 doses).
Tunisia owes the success of this day to the soldiers in white coats, security guards and the army, as well as to the some 5,000 volunteers from different associations in the country who mobilized for the success of the event. Officially, this country of 11 million inhabitants now has one of the highest mortality rates in the world linked to the pandemic.
With millions of vaccine doses pouring in as a result of donations in recent weeks, Tunisia hopes to officially vaccinate about 50% of its population by mid-October.
