The wife of Senegalese-American producer Alioune Badara Thiam aka «Akon», Rozina Negusei, announced a five-year investment of $12 million (FCFA 6.5 billion) in the Ugandan entertainment industry.
Invited by East African Partners (EAP) Managing Director Isaac Kigozi, President and CEO of Zanar Entertainment, Entreeg Records & Entreeg Entertainment Group, Rozina Negusei, said she plans to invest $12 million (FCFA 6.5 billion)in five years in the entertainment industry in Uganda.
Rosina Negusei believes that the entertainment industry is a promising sector for the country. “We are here to explore new opportunities in Uganda, focusing on investment in agriculture, solar and real estate. Our main objective is to see how we can bridge the gap between East Africa and West Africa in terms of business and trade,” she told the press.
Like the United States, which has developed in part thanks to the entertainment industry, Rozina Negusei wants to make Africa an entertainment hub. “If we bring entertainment every year, whether it’s films, music prices, Uganda can become the home of the entertainment industry,” she said. She believes that Africans are intelligent enough to recognize their own talent and expertise in music and film. So they don’t have to wait for other cultures to recognize that.
It should be noted that her husband, the Senegalese-American singer and producer Alioune Badara Thiam, has several investment projects in Africa including the one called “Akon Lighting Africa”. A project launched in 2014 by the musician artist and two of his friends Samba Bathily and Thione Niang. It aims to provide electricity through solar energy in Africa. It also has another flagship project for Senegal. It is the construction of a futuristic and autonomous city “Akon City” in Mbodiene, a village located in the region of Thiès about a hundred kilometers from Dakar. It will be a kind of Hollywood with movie studios, hotels, a university, hospitals, business and leisure centers, among others.
