Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a fervent supporter of Basaksehir Istanbul, openly denounced the unworthy behavior of the fourth referee of the match between the Istanbul club and PSG at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. It thus opposes any form of racism or xenophobia.

Turkish President Recep Tayyib Erdogan had already distinguished himself by denouncing the Islamophobic remarks made by French President Emmanuel Macron following the assassination in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine of a professor of history named Samuel Paty. This Tuesday evening, he comes back to the charge to chastise the racist remarks made by the fourth referee Sebastian Coltescu in the 14th minute of the Champions League match between the Turkish club Basaksehir Istanbul and the Parisian squad.

“I strongly condemn the racist remarks made against Pierre Webo, a member of Basaksehir’s technical staff, and I am convinced that UEFA will take the necessary measures,” Mr Erdogan said on Twitter. “We are unconditionally opposed to racism and discrimination in sport and all other areas of life,” he added.
