Petro-Tim! A state affair involving directly Aliou Sall, the little brother of Senegalese President Macky Sall. A politically, economically and socially sensitive case, which caused a lot of noise and ink, was finally dismissed without any follow-up. The investigating judge who was investigating suspicions of corruption in the oil and gas industry closed the file. The findings of the 29 December ordinance were published on the news website of the Senegalese daily “Libération”. 

The case judge dismissed the case. He dismissed the case on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. The findings of the dismissal on the site of “Libération”, inform that the investigations that have been conducted since June 2019 for alleged facts of corruption, fraud, embezzlement, money laundering, association of malefactors or tax fraud involving Aliou Sall, the brother of the President of the Republic, Macky Sall, did not allow to charge anyone. Following the hearing of the various protagonists, the judge asserts that it is not established that there was corruption. There was no money paid to corrupt anyone and that according to him.

In June 2019, the British channel BBC, through an investigative report, denounced the $250,000 transaction between Petro-Tim, the company specializing in hydrocarbons and Agritrans, a company controlled by Aliou Sall, the brother of the Senegalese president. The British media accused Petro-Tim of embezzling $10 billion. An investigation was immediately opened by the Senegalese authorities for alleged acts of corruption, fraud, embezzlement, money laundering and criminal association.

This final judicial decision on this sulphurous issue continues to provoke reactions within the population but also the political class. The former Prime Minister, Abdoul Mbaye, denounces a baclée procedure. He had strongly criticized the conduct of the hearings of the Criminal Investigations Division. Together with MP Mamadou Lamine Diallo, he filed a complaint for forgery in public writing and complicity in embezzlement.
