Senegalese authorities will continue the use of hydroxychloroquine in the treatment of patients with coronavirus. A study led by Professor Moussa Seydi showed the effectiveness of this molecule in healing and reducing the length of hospitalization of patients.

Professor Moussa Seydi, an infectious disease specialist who coordinates the management of coronavirus-infected patients, presented conclusive results in more than 300 patients. The objective is to generalize the prescription of hydroxychloroquine in a hospital setting, which is a commercially available antimalarial. A molecule that has been much talked about in France with Doctor Didier Raoult.

According to the study, the effects of treatment are much slower in patients over 80 years of age with a duration of 19 days in hospital.

Finally, Professor Moussa Seydi gave more precise information on the side effects: “In all patients who received treatment with hydroxychloroquine, and who were consulted early, no complications were noted. Even less than one case of death. Regarding side effects, the analysis focused on 362 patients. In this analysis, we found 12 cases of side effects. Among them, treatment was continued despite everything in 4 patients because the effects were not bothersome. The treatment was stopped in the others. However, 4 patients were prosecuted because the effects were not bothersome. The treatment was stopped in the others. But all the others were moderate, there were no serious side effects. All signs regressed at the end of treatment without the need for additional treatment. This means that, given these preliminary results, we will continue our treatment with hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin.”
