SENEGAL: The Covid-19 uncontrollable

In Senegal, the number of people tested positive for Covid-19 is increasing alarmingly.And yet, the Senegalese authorities have put in place barrier measures to stop the spread of the virus. Despite all this health arsenal taken by the government, the country recorded this Friday, January 22, 2021 a positivity rate of 13.22% or 300 people with the disease out of 2270 tests performed; 9 deaths are also to be deplored in 24 hours.

The authorities of the country are in a state of alert and for good reason, the epidemiological curve of the coronavirus is experiencing a constant and worrying ascendancy. Since the first case reported on March 2, 2020, 24,209 positive cases have been registered, including 20,089 cured and 561 deceased, according to the daily communiqué of the Ministry of Health and Social Action (MSAS), released this Friday, January 22 by Dr El Hadji Mamadou Ndiaye, Director of Prevention.

3558 patients are currently undergoing treatment in the country’s various health facilities. The government has taken a series of measures ranging from compulsory wearing of masks to a state of emergency with a curfew from 9 pm to 5 am in the Dakar and Thiès regions. But, the observation remains bitter, the disease is gaining ground and becoming more deadly.

The Ministry of Health and Social Action (MSAS), continues to urge the Senegalese population to respect barriers such as compulsory wearing of masks, physical distancing and regular hand washing.
