Abdirahman Omar Osman, the mayor of Mogadishu, the Somali capital, has died. He was the victim of a terrorist attack that occurred in Mogadishu July 24, 2019. The latter was in security meeting with several local officials including district commissioners Abdoulaziz and Waberi.
Despite the security device, a suicide bomber managed to enter the City Hall before triggering his explosive belt. It was perpetrated by the Islamist group Shebab. It claimed the lives of 6 people and injured 6 including Abdirahman Omar Osman, the mayor of Mogadishu.
Sent urgently for surgery, Abdirahman Omar Ousman was transferred to Doha, Qatar. He was finally unable to recover from his injuries. Three days of national mourning were ordered by the President of the Republic of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed said “Farmajo”.
However, Somalia will have to continue to fight repeated attacks whose main target remains public buildings and public administrations. On August 17, 2015 the attack on a hotel had reported 26 dead. June 15, 2019 a car bomb attack makes 8 victim. All of these attacks have been claimed by Islamist Shebab militants.
The shebabs have been spreading terror in the country since 2000 and yet they have been expelled from the city of Mogadishu since 2011. Since 2019, there has been a resurgence of attacks against the population. 28 attacks have been perpetrated since the beginning of 2019.
