«Happy to make an appointment for a concert on the channels of the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi to present “Daba”», it is the announcement of the Moroccan singer and composer Oum on her official page. The diva offered a concert broadcast on the YouTube channel and on the Facebook page of the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation Wednesday, February 24, 2021, a special occasion for its many fans to discover its fifth album entitled “Daba”. She also plans a tour in March 2021, again in the promotion of her new album.

This digital concert allowed the Moroccan singer, Oum, to tap into her musical repertoire and to vibrate the Internet users that she kept in suspense for several hours. Sensational songs one after the other to the rhythms of his last album «Daba», which now in Darija, released on August 30, 2019. An album recorded in Berlin that overflows with sensuality and captivating rhythms, coming from the singular artistic identity of Oum and the artistic director of the album, the Palestinian singer and lutenist Kamilya Jubran. 

The concert : 

The initiators of this concert, in this case the Cultural Foundation of Abu Dhabi, chose Oum because they know what it represents in the musical world. Oum made his way through hearts and history with incredible voices and sounds from his native land. The Moroccan singer-songwriter writes in Darija, the native dialect of Moroccan Arabic, and is associated with the Nayda urban music movement.”

This concert, widely followed on social networks, was a real success for the Organizing Foundation. The tracks of the album Daba captured the attention and sensitivity of an audience in a trance. 

It combines traditional Arab and Saharawi elements, and discreet borrowings from more contemporary aesthetics, namely soul, jazz and electro trance. In this album, Oum also raises current issues such as the constant threat to nature, the phenomenon of illegal emigration and the status of women in today’s world.

Oum, whose real name was Oum El Ghaït Benessahraoui, was born on 18 April 1978 in Casablanca but she grew up in Marrakech.She is a singer of soul music, mixed with influences like Hassanya poetry (Moroccan desert culture) and African rhythms. She presented her first album Lik’ in May 2009 in Casablanca. Then, in January 2010, Whowa, first single of her second album Sweerty, came out with a music video. Two years later, precisely in July 2012, she released Harguin a collaboration with the Blitz Ambassador on the theme of illegal immigration from sub-Saharan Africa.

The famous singer was invited to UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on the occasion of International Women’s Day to give a concert on 7 March 2012.
